Philosophy
It’s only in the recent past that we’ve seen a surge in the normalizing of therapy and a growing collective literacy in emotional intelligence. This is wonderful overall, but the act of going to therapy is still a very personal one. Finding the right fit for our complex needs is a relational process, and not always an easy one.
One of my strongest values as a therapist is finding and giving language to the uniqueness in everyone. I am a curious, patient, and intuitive practitioner. It’s incredibly important to me that I foster a trustworthy environment so as to allow for the vulnerability necessary to move through the most challenging ways in which we undo ourselves.
The framework of the therapeutic relationship is powerful. It’s within them that we can observe ourselves with compassion, and without the entanglements intrinsic to the connections we have with everyone else. Better understanding ourselves and our patterns is crucial to developing meaningful bonds with others. Strong relationships are the most holistic healing we could provide for any of our suffering.
The approaches I use are specific to you and your needs, but I draw from trauma-informed psychodynamic work as well as EMDR; expressive arts; and transpersonal therapy using Archetypal Astrology and Jungian Analysis. As much as I am a believer, I am also a skeptic. I am grounded in the fact that everyone is a person in their environment and the most basic needs must be met first.
My work is informed by my education and experience in the arts and working professionally within the contemporary art world. It is also informed by living as someone with disabilities. I specialize in working with the particular challenges, stressors, and pleasures of working as a creative professional - including (but not limited to) artists, designers, filmmakers, actors, chefs, writers, as well as those working in galleries and museums. I also specialize in working with individuals, families, and couples living with/adjusting to disability and chronic illness -- particularly vision and hearing loss.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to schedule a consultation.
